Modern aircraft development programs last for five to seven years. The talk outlines the major phases of aircraft development from decision to start a new product all the way through to the certification of the product. This gated process is described with applicable illustrations. The emphasis is put on the structural development of the product from concept to manufacturing then testing. This systematic process is, by the way, applicable to automotive industry and other industries as well. Lessons learned from practical experience in aircraft development are shared and explained to allow knowledge transfer both from engineering point of view and from on-the-floor practical experience point of view.
